General information about your appointment with Healthy Thinking Psychology

During your first session, your psychologist will discuss a range of topics, including your family history, life and the specific issues that you are facing. While it can feel daunting talking to someone you don't know about such personal topics, we encourage you to be as open and honest as you're comfortable being - as this allows us to help you to the best of our abilities.

Our standard appointment times are 50 minutes unless otherwise arranged. Please arrive 5 minutes early so you have enough time to prepare for your first session.

Your consultation fee is payable on the day of your appointment (if you are not able to pay on the day, you may be required to pay an additional $20 administration fee). A referral is not required to see a psychologist, only if you wish to obtain a rebate from Medicare.

Medicare

Medicare rebates are available with a valid referral and Mental Health Care Plan at Healthy Thinking Psychology. Please ask our reception staff for specific details about which rebate you're entitled to when you book your first appointment.

If you have a referral letter and Mental Health Care Plan from your doctor, you can claim the Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions of psychological treatment within a calendar year. You will need to obtain your referral letter and plan from your doctor before your first appointment, this referral is valid for 12 months.

After 6 sessions, you will need to make a follow-up appointment with your GP and obtain a second referral letter and review of your plan in order to be eligible for the Medicare rebate for the remaining 4 sessions.

WorkCover & TAC

At Healthy Thinking Psychology, we have psychologists who are registered providers for TAC and Workcover. All accounts need to be paid in full at the time of your appointment. As the patient, you are responsible for your account, and if your payments are covered by an institution (such as TAC or WorkCover) you will need to request reimbursement.

Private Health Insurance

Please check with your private health insurance provider if you are covered for psychology as part of your plan.

We can issue you with a receipt to take to your health fund after your consultation for claiming purposes. Please note: you can claim through either Medicare OR Private Health Insurance, but not both.
